XIX for iPhone

Privacy Policy

Effective June 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the XIX — The Hinrichs Guide application for iPhone and iPad (the “App”) handles your information. XIX is a restaurant guide and a private notebook. It is designed, from the ground up, to keep what is yours on your own device and in your own iCloud account.

The short version

There is no account and no sign-up. We do not ask for your name or email, and we do not collect, sell, or share your personal information. There is no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. The notes and bookmarks you create stay on your device and in your personal iCloud — we have no access to them.

Information we do not collect

You can browse, search, and read the entire guide without signing in or providing any identifying details. The App does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or photos. The App does not use advertising identifiers and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Your notes and bookmarks

Any private notes and bookmarks you create are stored on your device in a local database. To let them follow you across your own devices, the App mirrors a copy into your personal iCloud account (using Apple’s key-value storage). This data is tied to your Apple ID and is handled by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We cannot see or access it. If you prefer not to use iCloud sync, you can disable iCloud for XIX in your device’s Settings, and your notes will remain only on your device.

Guide content and offline use

The App downloads the published guide — restaurants and the curator’s profile — from our service at api.xix.guide and stores a copy on your device so the guide works offline. These are ordinary, unauthenticated requests that send no personal information about you. As with any request over the internet, our server temporarily processes the connecting IP address solely to deliver the content; we do not use it to build a profile of you or to track you.

Embedded TikTok previews and external links

Some entries include a preview of a TikTok video. To show it, the App requests public preview information directly from TikTok (tiktok.com). When this happens, TikTok receives the request — including your device’s IP address — and handles it under its own privacy policy. Similarly, when you tap a restaurant’s reservation link or open a TikTok page, you leave the App and the destination’s own privacy policy applies. We have no control over third-party services and are not responsible for their practices.

Maps and location

The App shows restaurant locations on a map using Apple Maps. The App does not request access to your device’s location and does not collect, store, or transmit where you are.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date above and post the updated policy at this address.
